Alpha 2.0.50-51 — The Editing Update

2.0.51

  • Fixed a bug where using save points on some older maps (including some standard levels) would write a corrupt save file and render the game unplayable.
    • After updating to 2.0.51, the game will forget if you had touched any save points in the affected levels. Sorry!
  • Fixed a bug where the lighting would glitch out when you died.

2.0.50

  • You can now edit your levels even after publishing them.
    • You asked for it, you got it! Details:
    • Once you've won a level, your win continues to count even if the level is edited.
    • When a level is edited, old plays stick around but new plays always beat them.
    • Big feature, probably buggy.
  • Made changes to some of the standard levels.
  • Fixed versioning bug affecting levels & replays
    • This would cause some replays to appear to be losses when you watched them, when they were actually wins.
    • The same bug also stopped some levels from working, such as Wunk's Luigi.
  • Fixed bug where not all plays were counted
    • Plays were only counted if you let the game go back to the level page without hitting quit or restart.
    • All plays are now counted, including ones where you hit restart without winning or losing (these count as losses).

  1. Still seems to be a bug in the win recording. I've beaten Kewl Level twice, but neither seems to have recorded.
    The funny save-restart glitch is still there. (I know it's probably a tough one to find as it seems to be semi-random whether it works or doesn't)

    1. Win recording: Hmm, annoying. Clearing your Blackshift cache might fix this bug. (%APPDATA%\Blackshift\Cache\Levels). Don't do this if you have unpublished level pit levels.

      Save-restart: Yep, haven't got around to this one yet.

    3. Yup... Still can't get a record on Xindaris's 5x5. But I got a record on Kewl Level and Drerio got one on 5x5... So it's probably a small detail that causes the problem.

  2. Okay, here is maybe a bit of a problem. I went back to fix a bunch of levels and also to re-name the Untitled ones. If you rename the level, it appears that it is still there but also is the same/fixed level! This might also have something to do with my cached levels. I will play around with it.

    1. Oh, BTW, thanks alot for the Editor! Awesome! Now, I can fix some games that don't work anymore. I deleted all published games in my cache and reloaded the game. The Untitles are still there so, they are probably still on your server. We now need a delete level command. Right now, having some issues with playbacks on my games as they "hang" the game!

  3. Oh, BTW Rob, on the other thread, 2.0.49, SSB had 2 threads as well. Latest and Hardest. On the Hardest column, the one at the top was impossible so, he must have been an Alpha tester. As it was a text based game, the player somehow slipped in some unicode to block the finish. I downloaded his level to find out what he did and replicated his level except, I took out the blocker, and called him out on his cheat code. Shortly thereafter, you made a change to the game, lost all the levels, said "oops" and, sadly, it was finished. For all the editing I have done (now that we have the editor), there appears to be a problem because the edited games may be in conflict with the original and thus the game hangs on "watch". As I said, on this computer, I deleted all the levels in %appdata%, loaded the game, and they all came back including the failed ones. Once you edit, the original has to be deleted! Including wins etc!

      @RGA I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's every replays since the last update.
      An example for me would be my replay on FUNGUS.

  5. I see you guys have been digging into my level pit! I renamed Untitled to Rat Race but you beat Untitled. Ha ha ha! Don't do dat!

  6. Still having some trouble with clean wins recording. Both Impossible City and Switch Ends were won clean, but are not sticking past the initial "done" appearing.

    2. At least for me testing a few levels, the problems recording seem to be tied to levels where there are saves. Certainly not all of them, but there seems to be a glitch with some of the save states preventing the win from recording. Clearing the cache worked for two levels, but doesn't seem to be a guarantee fix or persistent (I haven't tried clearing cache before playing each level, but at least for me some saves quit working on the second level after a cache reset).

    3. Well... I just recorded a win on "make your own maze". I didn't used the save tile so it's definitely linked.

    4. Yes, just played some levels. On a few of them, wins using a save didn't record, but did if I repeated it without using the save (repeating with the save still won't record).

  7. Ha ha - look at the file attachment in your email Rob! I was making a level, it disappeared and yours showed up! I deleted it and my other level showed up! Funny!

  8. Had another one do the same thing only this time it was mine. Again, I deleted it, and Passageways came back! I spent a lot of time on Passageways!

    1. I liked Passageways. I think I stumbled across an accidental shortcut, as I won, but didn't get to a bunch of rooms I found on other plays. I think I know how to get there the right way, but with my saves not generally working, I'm a bit afraid to enter some of the spaces...

    2. Now you can work on the full version of Passageways as I stopped both flaws. Nice to be able to edit! :) Nice puzzle taken from Radi's level pit in Netshift where we could actually peek at other people's level pit and check, play only, their levels that they didn't publish. I just took screen shots, rebuilt in here and found I couldn't beat it either. Slight modification made it work. Radi was an awesome builder.

      Rob, I think I found another flaw with the bullet as in a level I am building, the bullet goes off course to the right in this case and missed the deflector and killed my ship behind it. I will test it some more. I had the bullet bouncing around a bunch of permanent deflectors. I have seen this before where the bullet gets pushed off course by another bullet in close proximity. This is the first time I have seen it do it by itself. If I figure it out, will send you the game file.

  9. I fixed Passageways. I was working on it late last nite and was too tired to test it enough. What I'm am getting is the cosmic ray thing and my saves are randomly not registering.

  11. You know what, I got another one brewing - Path Finder - but waiting for you guys to finish off a few levels in my pit. Like "Sliding Down Stairs" and "Dizzy 0>0" but that may be due to the current issue of saves/recognition. I got a few more that haven't been beaten and they are a lot easier than Wunk's levels - buahahahah! you now, gotta beat these levels clean or no score!

    1. Win not recorded and as well, I checked the game and it is asking me if I want to publish changes. I never changed it! As well, I have beaten it at least 6 or 7 times and only 1 win recorded. I will publish the "changes" and beat it again and see what happens (but I doubt I can beat my own score). It would help if you could see the 3rd rolling guy to time it. Yep Rob, the new re-edit is a bit quirky. A little bigger screen might be nice...

  16. Crashed the game Rob but ignore it. Forgot to put the ship in the game and it ended up underneath an enemy. Too bad, it was a good one! My bad!

    2. Okay, your bad. So the new problem is if I edit some of my screwed up levels, the "untitled' one shows up on the board. I actually got a screen where I could delete the level but, that didn't work. I beat the renamed level and the untitled showed up. Prolly a database thing. I renamed the level to Taco Party, it is on Page 11 of my levels.

    3. One thing apparently that you cannot do is edit and change the name of an "untitled" level unless I don't know the sequence. I fixed "Clone Me :)" because my plunger strategy didn't work. But, I didn't change the name and it worked. It took me two tries at editing. And, as for deririo, there is no way I can beat "Fun with Pets" and apparently, neither can anyone else! :D And Rob, cancel Luigi, it doesn't work and get rid of one of Wunk's "Lasershow II" They both show up on my "Try These" levels!

    4. Where are you stuck in Pets? I think I know the room, and will try to edit it to clean it up (one room is not as easy to discover a solution as I'd like). FWIW, I'm stuck right after falling down your stairs. I get trapped at the save with the green gate still up.
      Rob- on the new Clone me level of Obie, noticed what may be strange behavior. If you go pick up the bomb, then drop it, only the bomb gets cloned and you die off. That may be the intended behavior (only the most recent thing on the square is cloned) but I'm not sure why you have to die if you aren't being cloned....

    5. Falling Down Stairs you need the deflector to shoot down the nearest enemy opening on the top half (that opening was marked by the green door). I fixed it so you don't hit the save button and have to restart on the bottom half. Pets problem is the 3rd room!

      Next version has some renaming fixes, this was really broken. Should clear up the mess.

      I won't delete Luigi, Wunk can fix it or delete it if he wants. I can fix it, but there are more important things for me to do at the moment.


      @Drerio:

      Good spot with the clone machines — the details of their behaviour don't make sense really do they? Also, cloning yourself could do something more interesting than just moving you.

    7. BTW, What drerio is saying is correct but only if you stay in that spot. You can move away and go back and the ship will be cloned first and you don't die.

  17. On my latest level "Save For £'s", only one of 5 wins has been recorded and as well, sometimes your gun won't fire because I guess I have too many bullets in the air at any one time! May have to edit that if it is a problem!

  19. Okay, so this isn't exactly productive discussion about testing the game, but level 8 is driving me crazy. Beating it is fine, but there seems to be some secret in the top that I just can't get to. I've made the 3 rolly enemies, got the third one to trigger the gun and destroy the explosive, but then I can't make it out of the lower area to get to the newly accessible area at the top. I'm going nuts.

  20. It is Rob's deception. Make 2 rolling sausages, go down and get the key, come back and open the door so the sausages die on the stingers, then you win! The top is a dead end! That is what I have to learn yet, make dead ends on my levels! Maybe on my next one! Ha ha!

  21. I see my amigos can't seem to beat some of my latest levels. Building a new one called Obie100 or whatever. Based on a netshift level but because of the difference in the two games, it is hard to make work. Quick start and death becomes if you miss. Could sure use a machine gun but, I will make it work - whatever. Might be nice if some of you testers put up some levels except for me, dereio and Rob.

    3. I actually won it (and some of your other levels) a few times but it doesn't record with certain saves and restarts. (I can't tell whether this is related to the bug that sometimes prevents saves from actually loading or not, both seem somewhat random...) Generally speaking, it seems avoiding saves seems to make for a better chance of the win getting recorded, though it might take a few extra tries.... :) Working on cleaning up Pets and have a new level in progress to get out soon...
