Beta 2.1.15 Released

Just a small update this week.


Changes

  • Bugs fixed
    • The fix for copiers in the last update mistakenly applied to copiers in all old levels, not just new levels.
    • If you got the secret on level 41, the game wouldn't recognize it.
  • Minor changes to some levels

    i have still the problem with the visible mouse cursor at level mode,
    could you hide the cursor, if i press "Play" in the menu?
    this should clear this problem.

  3. i wanted to build my lvl "skill&logic" a little bit harder...
    one blue jet should survive, but the "yellow enemy counter" is no more in the editor.
    the secret sign in lvl 41 is shown, thanx rob for fast update.
    by the way, i need a hint for lvl i, please.

    2. i always turned in a circle! i ve got two bullets and i can blow up two bombs with it, but i can not pass the way directly under the the minefield. should i draw a map from this level? does it helps? i do not understand your hint :(

    3. How to avoid cognitive blind-spots: "Examine an object, not just by mentally applying your preconceived image of the object, but really look at it.".

      And I'm not talking about the one fan that doesn't move:-).

      If that doesn't help: there is a useful hint in the last blog post's comments!

    6. i also noticed with the unnecessary counter later when playing, but had no desire to realize my idea differently.
      Can you give me a hint for lvl "i"? I dont get any further.
      i miss a bullet to shoot the barrel.

    8. Ive decided to start removing hints that make things too easy — I’d like to keep this blog relatively spoiler-free.

      Of course, there’s no way I’m going to be totally consistent with this. I left HTFU’s hint in the other thread. But that was a nice obscure hint :)

      As a survivor of the original Blackshift (99 levels of it, anyway . . .), it's great to be working through the new improved version. You've done an amazing job. I'm not looking for spoilers, just basic reassurance. Are you certain nothing has gone awry in the changes to Level 41? I have no problem getting out of the first room, no problem getting the secret, but the middle room, the escape room, looks impossible to me . . .

  6. Hey my Blackshifty friends !!!

    i don't have a lot of time, but it's stronger than me : i've just published a new Level.

    At the beggining, i wanted to make a well balanced level, not too hard, not too easy... but that ,too, is stronger than me : i added some difficulties, and little by little, i think this level became hard !!!

    give me your opinion !

    1. no, your level was well balanced, not too hard but very challenging and entertaining. thanx!

      but i had to set my resolution to "Blurry Mess" to rewind the speed part (the explosion field), my pc is terrible slow :)

  7. 2 new little levels !!! "ATTENTION" & "Stop" . Both are based on the 3 new ships

    by the way, i published my level too early, so i had to make some changes, and the game is not at all buggy anymore when you edit it after it has benn published!!! congrats Rob, great job !!!

  9. Hi Mills. 14 Juliet is a great level, the kind of level I love. I take me forever to finish it and once I solved it I played several times trying to beat your time just to see how you solved it. I think that at least 300 plays of the 500+ plays the level has are mine LOL!!!!

    1. yes, i did the same : i played and played and played again, very fastly to try to beat your time, but then, your time was still 9 seconds better!!! so i had to try and try again, and i finally succeeded to beat your time, with 9s ! ;p

    sometimes you can push a stone over a black field,
    sometimes a stone falling down, and sometimes a stone stops in front of a black field.
    what will be the final behaviour for a black field?

    1. They should fall down; that's the new behaviour. As usual, old levels will keep the old behaviour.

    2. There are two different black fields:

      1°: The "non field",or an erased field... which appears as black.
      2°: The black Tile

      Movable objects fall into the black tile, but it can not fall into a non-tile because it is not a tile !!!

    3. BTW, I would like to have tiles on which I cannot pass, but into whom blocks do not fall either...

    4. the black tile pit should have a differend design as the unset black field, perhaps a bright-black-transition
      so a confusion is excluded, burri

    5. The "unset" tile is only black is you don't surround your level with walls. Do that and it gets filled with the "terrain" graphic so it looks very different from a pit.

    6. yes but i wish i had a tile where the player can not go, but where a block does not fall down.
      2 different black tiles : a black tile as a hole, and a flat black tile...

    7. yes, you're right, that's exactly what i did when i needed it.
      But this approach requires a minimum of 3 tiles : 1 tile for the laser, one tile for the flat black tile, and one tile to stop the laser...

      it's not a big deal, and i can do with, i'm just saying it would even better with a simple flat black tile ! ;D

  12. Somehow my previous comment didn't publish, so here goes. Yesterday I opened the game to find the Remember Password option unchecked. I did a little hunting and found it, and when I logged in again, all of my progress was gone and I had to start at Level 1 again.

    Has this happened to anyone else?

      1°) I removed the "Red Dot / secrets" because they were useless and buggy !!! I've just used some walls instead of these "red dots / secrets"

      2°) i moved one green bomb ... ;P

    5. hi mills, you need three bombs and the ying yang tool to set one bomb directly in front of the cannon,
      but how did you get the third bomb?
      copying seems to be is impossible.
      i am puzzling over and over, but find no way.

    1. the both copyer are usefull.
      3 bombs are needed to blow the woodblock up.
      a Yin/yang is needed to prevent the 3 bombs kill you.

    4. in my defence, I was really tired...:-/. I've fixed it, but maybe I should remove it altogether.
      Just out of curiosity Mills: how do you go about creating levels? Do you have a rough outline, maybe on a piece of paper before you start or just an idea in your head somewhere? How long does it take you to make an average level?

    7. yes Burri, it should be impossible. Somehow my latest edit does not show up in the level... So effectively we'er all playing an earlier version than what's in my editor. @Rob: do you have any tips on how to make sure that what you publish is the latest version? Is there an app cache somewhere that can be emptied or something of that sort?

    9. there are no rules...

      but i have never built on a paper!

      sometimes, i begin with an item i want to use... and then, i look for a second item which the first has an interesting connection with.

      Generally, i build a first puzzle. And a second one, etc,etc... and, if it's possible, i sort them to be played from the easier to the harder
      But i would like it, unfortunately i find it very hard to build several puzzle which make a biggest puzzle. most part of time , my levels are a series of independant puzzles.

      i build some things, and i play it, i try to find other ways, i try to find flaws, and sometimes i find new ideas ! so i add it to the level, or i save it for later.
      and most often i like to add some difficultites on difficulties, and others, and others, etc...
      most of time i think about burri to make a level which need not speed... but it's hard !

      I often try to build some hard levels because my favorite levels are the xtrem hard ones... i love when i can not succeed!!! and i love much over when i finally find the solution
      but, i know a good level is not too easy and not too hard, and the most important thing: the level must have a theme.

      i won't be able to say you how long does it take me to make an level (even an average one ... ;p ) because it's very variable !
      i use to build when the my children sleep... it can take several weeks, sometimes!!!


      sometimes i start from an idea, and i build around it. but , i think the best ideas come when i'm playing.

      there are some unfinished levels which are in my pit since last year!! and some of them will never be published!!!

      i often think about Obie... he said : "start to build, and let your imagination run wild !!!"

      Oh, i am going to publish a new level.
      because , sometimes, i just want to create a mechanism. You can not see it, but i'm sure a few part of you wonder "but how did he build it???"
